I really love living here!Today's random thought: College.
Apparently, college is supposed to be the best 4 years of your life. It's the 4 years where you "find yourself", by way of hugging the porcelain God each night, puking up SoCo and grenadine after eating a vat of chili fries at your college's local hotspot. It's the time where you "let yourself go", by sleeping with the entire SigmaThetaUnoDos fraternity, catching syphilis and blaming it on your best friend, because you had nothing else better to do for 5 hours while she was studying in her room, and happened to forget to take the sock off the door. College is summer's at mom and dad's beach house in Cape Cod, and Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa, catching up with old friends, and working the 4 hour a day part-time job at your local grocer's freezer - that no matter how many unlicensed illegal immigrants pile into their 1967 Toyota to come and work the graveyard shift, ensuring the stock of toilet paper and enema kits never gets too low, somehow, there is always a spot waiting with your name on it when you come back.
In reality, college is a giant waste of time. That's why I didn't go. I have a ton of friends who went to college, who graduated, and are now no better off than they were before they started. Let's waste 4 years, as well as thousands of dollars to get a cream colored piece of paper in a frame that says "I win at life because I got an "A" in Anthropology." Do you want a fucking medal? Let's see you find a job in that field. You're going to be working a 9-5, barely above the poverty level job, just like the rest of us.
Unless you want to strive to be the world's next McSteamy, or Johnnie Cochran, you're just wasting your time.

Food for thought: how do you know it's a waste of time if you didn't go?
Part of me agrees with you. I almost have a Master's degree and yet here I am stuck solidly in the 9-5 world. It's disheartening, but I am able to keep in mind that this is not my future. It's just a place to get me to where I want to be.
However, college has given me so much, and no one will ever be able to take my education from me. A waste of time? Definitely not! Has it yielded the results I thought it would? Not so far.
I don't think college is for everyone, but I have no regrets.
I see where you are coming from. However, I think most people only take life experiences from it, not necessarily educational experience.
I went to college for 3 days and hated it. Maybe I wasn't ready for it at that time. I just know I went because I was forced, and you aren't going to get anywhere having that frame of mind.
Maybe I'm being a bit too brutal about it, but that's just how I feel. The post certainly was not meant to upset or offend anyone. Lord knows if my father saw this he would give me SUCH a lecture. (He's just about to finish his Masters.) ;)
That's an amazing picture of the skyline and the way it reflects off the River, James The way the old bridge support is down there sharing the corner with the tree. You should KISS the person who took it.
I'm totally not offended, and I see where you're coming from. I agree, you're not going to get anywhere if you're forced. Like I said, college is not for everyone. And it's something you have to want.
I will say also that I've gotten a good amount of both life and educational experience from college. But I also think that college can act as a shield against the real world for some and that ultimately the world is probably a better teacher than the academy.
PEOPLE have always given me such a hard time about my decision to NOT go to college.
it's nice to see someone else with the exact same ideas as me.
